How to Get Started as a Content Creator
I never knew how some digital creators could produce such high-quality and high volumes of content. I would wonder…
How do they have enough time in the day?
How can they consistently come up with such great ideas?
How do they stay original while doing all of this?
I’ve always wanted to be a content creator, but I was overwhelmed with disbelief in my ability:
Am I creative enough?
Am I savvy enough with a camera, editing software, or design tools?
What I’ve come to realize is this: it all starts with writing and frameworks.
The Simple Answer
Here’s the solution to all those questions:
Outline who you are, what your interests are, and who you can help.
Create a structured template or framework to help you write 1,000 words on any topic based on your outline.
This method works because it removes the need to constantly come up with creative content from nothing, over and over, leading to creative block and burnout.
The Power of a Detailed Outline + 1,000 words
By creating a comprehensive outline of your interests, expertise, failures, lessons learned, and stories, you give yourself a perspective to write from—a foundation you can always come back to and draw from.
Then, once you’ve written 1,000 words on a topic, you now have the foundation to create a wide variety of content:
Those 1,000 words can be,
Sent as a newsletter
Posted as a blog post
Turned into a YouTube video script
Broken down into 10 individuals tweets (For X, IG Threads)
Summarized into 1-2 threads posts (For X, IG Threads, Linkedin)
Threads can be turned into short video scripts (For YT Shorts, IG Reels, TikToks)
Your single writing session can result in multiple content formats. You could even use ChatGPT to help you transform your original writing into these other styles and platforms.
How to Create Your Personal Outline
To get started, follow these steps:
Open a blank document and make a list of:
Your specific interests (don’t hold back).
The broad categories your interests fall under (e.g., Health, Relationships, Wealth, Entrepreneurship).
Personal problems you’ve solved in your life (big or small).
Current problems you’re working through.
Books you’ve read, people you admire, and YouTubers you follow.
Your goals and aspirations.
This can lead to clarity and idea generation when deciding what to write 1,000 words about and create content on.
Crafting a Writing Template
This is still something I’m working on through trial and error, but here’s a basic outline I’ve learned from people I look up to:
Template:
Topic: Pick a topic based on your outline.
Title: Write an attention-grabbing headline.
Hook: Start with a bold statement or intriguing question.
Problem: Present a problem related to the topic and explain why it matters.
Solution: Offer a solution based on your experience or something you learned.
Evidence: Support your solution with examples or data.
Practicality: Turn the solution into actionable steps.
Conclusion: Summarize your points and offer motivation.
Call to Action (CTA): Encourage your audience to take the next step.
Getting Started
So, if you’ve ever wanted to become a creator, influencer, YouTuber, or writer but feel overwhelmed, here’s my advice: just start writing. Don’t aim for perfection—aim for volume and consistency.
Immediate Steps:
Outline your interests, expertise, goals, and problems.
Copy and paste the writing template above into a document.
Write 1,000 words on a topic.
Just get started. Be yourself. Have fun.
